Management Event

March 01, 2014

Group: Walnut Creek Wild Ones
Location: In Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park, the banks of Wells Branch just upstream of the park road
Event Notes: As part of an "It's My Park!" Day cleanup event, about 25 volunteers spent 2 to 3 hours removing unsightly vegetative trash—Ligustrum lucidum (glossy privet)—from this area. The specimens shown in observation 16616 were among those removed. Most were saplings and small trees and were completely uprooted. Two were large enough to be cut, and enough of the trunks were left for PARD Forestry crews to finish appropriate treatment with herbicide or further removal. Many specimens removed were 15 to 20 feet tall. The largest diameter was 10-12 inches CDBH.
