Management Event

December 02, 2016

Group: TreeFolks and Walnut Creek Wild Ones
Location: Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park
Event Notes: Volunteers added native saplings to the plant inventory while uprooting small ligustrum saplings and tilling in ligustrum seedlings that are sprouting at groundcover density where the previous removal of mature ligustrums has let more light reach the forest floor. In a wetland dominated by ligustrum, chinaberry, and Chinese tallow, a mixture of bald cypress and sycamore saplings was planted. (Mature box elders, American elms, and pecans are also present, but are heaviliy outnumbered by the ligustrums alone.) We girdled a handful of ligustrums, uprooted dozens of ligustrum saplings, and tilled in thousands of ligustrum seedlings. We also encountered and removed three Chinese pistache saplings and one small elephant ear.
